Friday Night at the Movies

Movies. A popular part of most people's lives.

Take advantage of the volumes of video movies available. They can be used as effective discussion starters or as an opportunity to challenge the thinking of colleagues and students alike. Choose timely films that will lead to a lively discussion of spiritual issues. Provide a fun atmosphere with plenty of soft drinks, popcorn, and munchies.

Some suggestions of movies that lead to good discussions are: Crimes and Misdemeanors, Out of Africa, China Cry (especially for internationals), Dead Poets Society and Chariots of Fire.

A book entitled, Video Movies Worth Watching {1} reviews 83 popular movies. It gives a summary of the plot, and suggestions for getting the most out of viewing the films. Discussion questions are provided for addressing the issues raised by the films and seeing them in light of biblical principles. It is a must if you desire help in coming up with discussion questions and biblical concepts that apply to specific movies.
