What is a Christmas Gathering? It is a gathering of friends or neighbors in an individual's home. The party features delicious holiday food, spontaneous sharing of Christmas traditions, a brief, non-threatening talk on the meaning of Christmas, and an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ.
Christmas is a wonderful season to share Christ's message in a meaningful way. People's hearts are unusually open and warm to spiritual thoughts and to being together. They feel honored to be invited to a party in a home where there will be others they know or would like to know.
As a faculty wife in the university setting, you have the opportunity to take this "Christmas Gathering" approach and use it to reach other couples or faculty wives with the gospel in a relaxed holiday atmosphere. These parties are designed to reach couples, women, or even students during the holiday season.
The aim of the Christmas Gathering is to provide a simple and effective way of sharing Christ with people through this evangelistic holiday party.
Women around the world are using this opportunity with exciting results. As an entertaining format, it was first introduced in 1981 in Minneapolis by Campus Crusade for Christ staff member Joyce Bademan. Since that time hundreds of people have trusted Jesus Christ and numerous Bible studies have been started, resulting in changed lives.
A complete manual describing the responsibilities of the host/hostess, the speaker, and the coordinators (if there is a coordinated city-wide or church-wide effort) is available.{1} Follow-up suggestions are also outlined and detailed. The manual provides sample talks and invitations, a prayer calendar, bulletin inserts, and prayer bookmarks.
