Back when there was a school shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a pastor wrote a newspaper column that circulated through the Internet. In the aftermath of the shooting at Littleton, Colorado it is making the rounds again. I thought I might quote from it today.
He notes that commentators were asking, How could this type of thing happen? His column attempts to answer the question.
Once a children is conceived, he points out, he has a 50-50 chance of being aborted. If the child is born, there is a high likelihood of never knowing who its father is or having a father who has no relationship with him because he is too busy or divorces his mother. He then points out there is a 50-50 chance of being placed in day care "to be raised by a hireling and a purple dinosaur."
When the child goes off to school, he finds that the "teacher's goal is primarily containment, secondarily socialization, and somewhat down the list a bit of education might take place. . . . The child will come to understand that he is merely a highly evolved animal who shares the planet with creatures lower down the food chain."
"The child will understand that all we knew of recorded history was wrong and that the problem with the world is the domination of strong, white European males who forced their culture on the rest of us."
The child will also learn that the state of Oregon is killing its aged, and that America is killing its preborn. And in the end, commentators ask why kids are killing kids in our schools. The pastor replies, "Contrary to what you always heard in school, there is such a thing as a stupid question, and that is one of them."
