Monday Ministry Minutes

From CLM Staff Member Mike Sorgius

Monday Ministry Minute #21

Taking Your Spiritual Temperature

Growing and developing in our Christian life requires that we occasionally take an honest assessment of where we are right now. It is not always a pleasant experience. We can put areas of our lives on the "back burner," and before long we realize that they have become areas of weakness.

One entire section of FacultyLinc is devoted to helping you evaluate your spiritual temperature, and then make plans for improvement. You can find all these tools by clicking the "Personal Growth" button at the FacultyLinc site. (http://www.facultylinc.com) This section of FacultyLinc is open to everyone. You do not have to be registered on the site to access this area.

This section is entitled: "What is a Christian Professor: A Model of Maturity and Ministry." It covers 12 areas including - Love Motivation, Focused Personal Life, Devoted Spiritual Walk, Committed Family Relationships, Faithful Church Membership, Influential Christian Ministry, Biblically Informed Worldview, Growing Intellectual Life, Excellent Professional Reputation, Disciplined Physical Life, Responsible Financial Affairs and Accountable Life. Many of these areas are applicable to everyone, not just faculty.

The place to start is the Assessment Questionnaire. (It is the last section listed after clicking "Personal Growth" and can be viewed online or downloaded as a PDF document). The questionnaire asks frank questions that will help you determine what area of your life needs some attention. This questionnaire can also be very helpful if you are helping to disciple another colleague.

After determining an area for improvement (I know this is tough, because none of us likes to be told we could be doing better somewhere, do we?), take a look at the appropriate chapter dealing with that issue. There you will find helpful insight and a list of resources that you can begin to use immediately.

Life can become very tedious and boring if we are standing still. Take the plunge. Find out where God might like to work in your life and give Him that chance. What could be more exciting than to know that God is at work in and through us?

Action Point: Go to http://www.facultylinc.com and check out the "Personal Growth" section. Take the Assessment Questionnaire you find there.
