Prayer: Hearing from God
You may be surprised that I described prayer as "hearing" from God rather than "speaking" to God. Prayer is often defined as "communication with God," but the communication is often one sided on our part.
Henry Blackaby, in his workbook, "Experiencing God," (which I mentioned last week) makes this statement, "If you have trouble hearing God speak, you are in trouble at the very heart of your Christian experience." Does that bother you as much as it did me when I first read it?
I think we all know that God speaks to us through His Word, prayer, other believers and circumstances that come into our lives. But how aware are we of it during the nitty gritty of our daily lives? Doesn't it seem that our lives are often a flurry of activity with an occasional reference to God?
Fortunately for us, God never gives up His pursuit of us. He is always there with open arms waiting for us to develop that love relationship He so earnestly seeks. His forgiveness is complete and immediate. The process begins today and lasts a lifetime.
Scripture: Matthew 22:37-38 - "Jesus replied; 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.'"
Action Point: Be available to hear from God as you spend time with Him this week. Who might He have you minister to around you?
