Monday Ministry Minute #11
Imagine Your Department Changed
Imagine this with me. Sit back in your office chair. Take a sip of
coffee. Put your hands behind your head. Now think about what your
department would be like if the truth claims of Jesus Christ were
respected by your colleagues. Sound far fetched? Impossible?
Well, imagine the impact if the following were true: 1) Top-notch
scholars in your field are thinking about the key issues of your
discipline as they relate to the Christian faith. 2) These scholars
are networked together and are in constant communication with each
other. 3) Common research areas are considered and grants are won to
consider a Christian perspective. 4) Position papers and peer
reviewed articles are published with a godly worldview. 5) Outreach
tools are developed to help you share this worldview with your
colleagues, grad students and undergrads.
Sound far fetched? Impossible? That depends on whether you believe
our faith has something to say about issues like ethics, history,
philosophy, human nature, the use of scientific knowledge, and the
list goes on. Bringing one's discipline and faith together in
academic integration is a critical part of a Christian's call to the
university.
Many scholars have been involved in this process over the years, but
the upcoming conference called "God and the Academy" in Atlanta,
Georgia, June 21-25, 2000 will help to accelerate the 5 areas
mentioned in the second paragraph above. The conference, co-sponsored
by Christian Leadership Ministries and Ravi Zacharias Ministries,
will feature some of the best minds in the Christian community,
discussing issues of apologetics, academic integration, communication
skills and direct ministry.
Just imagine. Sound possible? Visit the web site with complete
registration information at:
http://www.clm.org/chartthecourse. You
can read about the speakers, see the conference schedule, view the
wonderful accomodations at Georgia Tech's Olympic Village, and much
more.
Scripture: Ephesians 3:20-21 -- "Now to Him who is able to do
exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or imagine, according to
the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and
in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen."
Action Point: Check out the God and Academy website and encourage
others in your discipline locally or nationally to attend.
