Christian Leadership Ministries
Monday Ministry Minutes

From CLM Staff Member Mike Sorgius

Monday Ministry Minute #8

Ministering in the Secular University #3

The book, Ministering in the Secular University, by Dr. Rae Mellichamp is written in three major sections. Part One deals with "Ministering Individually," Part Two is on "Ministering With Others on Campus," and Part Three is about "Ministering With Others Nationally and Internationally."

Dr. Mellichamp shares a variety of ideas about how each faculty and staff member on a campus can influence those around him or her. We have looked at many of these suggestions in past MMMs. There are ideas on identifying yourself as a Christian in even subtle ways, such as how you decorate your office, or as you interact with students each and every day.

One of the most powerful tools we have is our own personal testimony. Have you ever taken the time to write out your personal story of faith? Can you share an abbreviated version of it with others in 3-4 minutes?

If you have never done such an exercise, let me encourage you to do it in a very easy, interactive way. Christian Leadership Ministries (CLM) has set up a website to give you a way to think through how to write your personal testimony. It includes examples from others and a step-by-step worksheet on writing yours. You can find this interactive guide at: www.leaderu.com/touching/YourStory.html.

Scripture: I Peter 3:15 - "But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence."

Action Point: If you have not already done so, write out your personal pilgrimage and be ready to share it. You might want to pray this dangerous prayer: "Lord, bring someone into my life today with whom I can share my life-changing story."
