Monday Ministry Minutes

From CLM Staff Member Mike Sorgius

Monday Ministry Minute #10

Developing a Personal Testimony

Few things are as powerful as your personal testimony. Your personal story of how you came to Christ and how He has changed your life is something that no one else can deny.

Of course, you can greatly improve your ability and willingness to share your own testimony if you have taken the time to thoughtfully think one through. Jesus told the man He had just healed in Mark 5:19, "Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you."

A simple outline for a personal testimony (2-4 minutes long) is:

  • I. My life before Christ
  • II. How I came to Christ
  • III. How Christ has changed my life
Thinking through your role as a mentor, just imagine how encouraging your testimony could be to other Christian (and non-Christian) students! Remember, they need to see and hear from people who have trusted Christ and are living it out day to day.

You can take the simple outline of your testimony, expand it with some apologetic material about why you believe, and have a handy evangelistic message that you could share in many situations.

Take a few minutes now to reflect back on how Christ has changed your life and spend some time thanking Him.

Scripture: I Peter 3:15 - "But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence."

Action Point: If you have never done so, write out your own personal testimony and look for opportunities to share it with others.
