Monday Ministry Minute #1
The Priority of Your Relationship with God
Before we have very much to offer those around us, we need to be sure that
our relationship with God is real and personal. Nothing is more important
in our lives than our relationship with God.
Do you believe that last sentence above? I know I do intellectually, but
how often is it my experience? A colleague of mine once described the
difference between being a human "doing" and a human "being." We are
usually very good at "doing" many things, but God would first like us to
"be" in an ongoing, loving relationship with Him. It is out of the overflow
of that relationship that He challenges us to minister to others.
If our relationship with God is to be a priority, our commitment to spend
time with Him needs to be the first thing we schedule around our set
appointments each week. How have you done lately in having a consistent
time with the Lord? Do you find it difficult to make that a priority?
One thing I have found very helpful is to have a specific study that
focuses my energy in a consistent time with Him. There are hundreds on the
market, but the very best I have ever done is a workbook called,
"Experiencing God," by Henry Blackaby. It will change your view of God and
it will change your life.
Whether you use a study book or just read through a portion of Scripture
and pray, you will want to make that time with the Lord the priority of
your day. There is nothing more exciting than a life in touch with God.
Scripture: John 15: 5 - "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man
remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can
do nothing."
Action Point: Begin a regular time with the Lord. The book, Experiencing
God, can be ordered through a local Baptist book store or through a church.
Be sure to order the
workbook, not the book [hardback] by the same title.
