Faculty Impact Series

Letter to Solicit Initial Group

FACULTY FRIENDS

April 27, 1983

Dear Colleague,

We represent a group of evangelical Christian faculty members who are interested in making a bigger impact for Jesus Christ on our campus. Your name has been suggested as someone who might share this goal with us. Our purpose in contacting you is to see if you would be interested in identifying yourself as a Christian and making yourself available as an informal advisor to those on campus who might need someone to talk to about spiritual matters.

Our plan is to purchase an advertisement in the Battalion similar to the one that is enclosed with this letter. We see many advantages of such an action. First it serves as a testimony to both students and faculty that there exist well-respected, highly-educated faculty here who are not afraid to claim Jesus as the Son of God and as their personal Saviour. Second, it helps students to know that Christianity is an intellectually viable worldview and not just a religion that you have to bury your head in the ground to believe. Third, it will let others know that we Christians care enough to volunteer some of our time to students to listen to their problems and help them find answers. Finally, for those who actually go to a faculty member's office in search of answers to life's problems, we can share our testimony in a personal way and use God's word to help answer their questions.

If this type of witness interests you and you would like your name to appear in the ad, please contact one of us for more information, or fill out and return the enclosed form. Included on the form is a minimal statement of beliefs to assure you and others that we are an orthodox group and not a sect. Also, there is a suggested donation since advertising space is costly. All donations will go directly to the cost of the advertisement and will determine how large the ad will be and how frequently it will appear. If you have any questions or suggestions about this endeavor or know other active Christian faculty members that we may not have contacted, please let us know.

Yours in Christ,
